Volunteer in the Community
Fill some volunteer hours..... and impact our future!
Junior Achievement (JA) is passionate people inspiring kids to learn the economics of life. JA enables caring adults to share their experience with students to show them what it takes to be successful!
Things at Junior Achievement are extremely busy and the demand for our programming is growing by the day. JA needs your help! Become a mentor for JA today, and help teach kids what it takes to be successful in life by offering 45-minute lessons once a week for 5-8 weeks. JA provides lessons and hands-on games and other resources such as partnerships in the community. Learn more about being a mentor here
Recently, Junior Achievement partnered with the Erie Times News in Education to develop an "Invest In Your Future" Feature. Each Friday, the new feature called "Invest in Your Future" will include activities and information to help students learn about what they need to know to succeed in life. A lot of the content covered in this supplemental material goes hand-in-hand with the JA curriculum you teach in the classroom.
- Familiarize the students with the newspaper and encourage them to read! Bring a newspaper into the classroom and spend the first session introducing the sections, particularly the business and classified sections.
- Do a quick review of the article and activity of the week.
- Ask students what they like to read in the newspaper. Have them share their thoughts.
- Introduce the topic "Living on your own" and what that might mean as an adult.
- Share your personal experiences with the student.
If you are interested in making a difference in your community through Junior Achievement, contact the JA Erie Office at (814) 898-6385 or ejackosn@jawesternpa.org to sign up! A volunteer interest form is also available and can be faxed to the office at (814) 898-6223.
